The paper presents the development of techniques to study flows in human conducting airways in order to improve understanding of underlying mechanisms in asthma and COPD. These include high-speed particle image velocimetry (PIV) as well as tomo-PIV measurements in geometrically realistic transparent airway models obtained through additive layer manufacturing (ALM) of segmented lung CT scans.
