The Small Angle Light Scattering (SALS) system enables the simultaneous determination of structural information and rheological data. Purely rheological methods provide information on the macroscopic behavior of the samples. That means a rheometer can be used to determine macroscopic material functions. However, the macroscopic behavior of a substance is strongly dependent on its microscopic structural parameters. Information on the microstructure is often helpful for a better understanding of the rheological behavior. SALS is one of the most widely used techniques for obtaining structural information and rheological data simultaneously.
The Rheo-Microscope is an accessory for the Physica MCR rheometers from Anton Paar which enables the visualization of the inner structure of samples simultaneous to the rheological measurements. By combining light microscopy and rheology the influence of shear and deformation forces on the sample structure can be visualized. Structural parameters can be studied simultaneous to rheology.
